As I prepare for my flight and return back to Virginia from American Association for Cancer Research, Chicago, I’m reminded that advocacy is a lifelong journey; be it a cancer patient, survivor, caregiver or medical doctor, we must all keep on fighting till we save as many lives as possible of our loved ones and the ones coming. I am deeply thankful to be part of the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center family, where we fight cancer together. As Dr. Rob Winn says, “One Team, One Fight.” 10 years ago, when I first heard the word “cancer,” it felt like my world stopped. This wasn’t in my playbook, nor on my resume. I never imagined I’d Walk into Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center—unless it was to show kindness. But then came those life-altering words: “You have cancer” In that moment, everything changed. This past week, I had the privilege of being in Chicago with the extraordinary team at Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. While cancer wasn’t on my resume, I’ve embraced my calling: advocacy for cancer research, survivors, patients, and their caregivers. The event was nothing short of incredible, filled with outstanding education and inspiring conversations. Even amidst it all, my focus remained on giving back. Anju Kane, MPH, MA Kelsie Campbell, MPH, you guys are amazing. Keep up with the good work. We will get there together in this fight! Thank @Allyson Biersack Katelyn Schifano, Danielle Randolph , Massey Cancer Champ for inviting me to be part of your amazing team. Together, we can make a difference!
